Pride Photography Documentation
As the Photography/Videography Lead for Asheville Pride, I served as the official photographer documenting the event and managing other photography volunteers. This role fulfilled my goal of being asked to photograph an event rather than simply showing up as an outside observer.
Role & Responsibilities
- Official Event Documentation: Captured comprehensive coverage of the Pride festival, including vendor interactions, parade procession, and festival activities.
- Team Leadership: Coordinated photography volunteers and managed media coverage throughout the event.
- Pre-Event Coverage: Documented events during Pride week leading up to the main festival, including gatherings at Wicked Weed and the Loft.
Photography Approach
The photography focused on capturing authentic moments of celebration and community connection. I photographed Pride vendors with a pleasant and polite approach, then documented the parade procession—capturing banners held high, wide smiles, and the diverse groups completing the parade circuit.

Professional Growth
This volunteer role provided valuable experience in event photography and expanded my photography craft. Working as the official photographer rather than an outside observer created opportunities for better access and more meaningful documentation of the community celebration.
